Last June, I won first place in the one-mile Terrapin Events Drag Race! This is the only race I’ve gotten first place in for a very long time, and I got all kinds of prizes for it. One of these prizes was a free entry into any 2011-2012 Terrapin Events Race. Obviously I decided to save it for the most expensive race they have, to get my free money’s worth, and use it to redeem a race entry for the 2012 Run Like Hell Half Marathon.
The sad news is, that my shin splints/maybe-stress-fracture-but-probably-not, is still hurting, and I’m definitely not in shape to run a half marathon. The good news is that I’m going to give my free race entry away to someone who isn’t injured, and who loves getting things for free!
If you would like to enter to win this race entry, you only need to do two relatively easy things:
- Follow my blog! Look at the right side of the page, where my list of members are, and click “Join this site.” This is important, because I only have 40 members right now, and I equate my self-worth with the number of people following my blog. I am less likely to give you a free entry if you’re not boosting my self-worth.
- Leave a comment on this post, and make it a good one. A boring comment will give you one one imaginary raffle ticket, a thoughtful one will give you two, and if I actually LOL (laugh out loud), then you get three.
If you want to win the race entry, and you actually want to do the race, you should consider these things as well:
- The race is in a week and a half, I hope you’ve been training (although you can also use the race entry for the 5k or the 10k).
- Here’s the tricky part: You will need to be able to go to the Sellwood Foot Traffic on Friday to pick up the entry, because I’m going to leave it there with a guy named Jackson (he works there). It has to be Friday, and it has to be before 5:00 PM, because that’s when registration closes. I waited so long to do this because I wanted to do the race for myself, and I assume the winner will enjoy logistical challenges.
This will be a short contest, because of obvious time constraints. I’ll notify the winner tomorrow (Thursday) in the early afternoon. Good luck!
EDIT: Contest is closed, congratulations Season!

I actually LOL’d at the title of your blog (about the running in a forest part!) I was just joking the other day with my BRF as we were running about posting my run on Daily mile and then re-posting it on FB, because if no one knew you ran then it didn’t count! 😉 I would LOVE to run the Run Like Hell half marathon, especially if the entry were FREE. 😉 I’m running the Girlfriend’s Half this Sunday (my sister is flying in from StL to run with me, it will be our first race together!), and I really REALLY want to PR it, but I also know that this race is really just supposed to be about running with my sis and having fun (and hitting the wineries after). So if I had the chance to run another one again shortly after, I could try and PR the heck out of it. Sorry my reply is wordy… and sorry about your injury. 4 years ago I couldn’t run more than 5 miles of the Girlfriend’s Half due to IT Band pain. I’m happy with how far I’ve come since then, but always trying to get a little better… 😉 I look forward to following your blog on a regular basis! I have a running blog too, but I am terrible about actually writing down the blogs I compose in my head when I running…
I tried to upload some picture of me kicking booty in a race or obstacle course and every single picture I attempted to upload said the file was too large! Ugh so I apoligize about the blank profile picture but hopefully my witty words can make up for it 🙂
I started running last year to get in shape after having my daughter and wanted to be in shape before my now hubby and I said our I Do’s. Little did I know it would change my entire life and perspective. I run for clarity, peace of mind, to leave everything else on the table, and to see what I’m made of. When I’m out there it’s me, myself, & I and to push myself to give more when I think there’s nothing left, well that’s why I run, why I race. Competing makes me feel alive & I live for that rush regardless of if it’s a 5k or half marathon. I’m not there to compete with the person next to me but with my biggest competition, the voice inside my head taunting me to give up. I’ve ran 2 halfs this past year & would love to be able to go out and represent for your win and make this my 3rd. I look forward to reading your blog and the quirky stories that are yet to come. Thanks for listening to me and my rant 🙂
At work with no working computer so hopefully my smart phone will post. Sometimes they are not so smart. I’ve mentally designed my own superhero costume and cape during the down time haha wishful thinking so to say 🙂 Velocity Girl with the bright orange cape – that’s me! And a huge VG stitched to the front of my leotard. Envisioning it 🙂
Season, congratulations, you are my winner! Please e-mail me at colleen.alicia@gmail.com to confirm that you are able to pick up the race entry at the Sellwood Foot Traffic tomorrow.
Congrats!
Colleen thank you SO much! I shot you an email and will definitely be able to go and pick it up tomorrow 🙂
Thank you Raquel!
This RULES. I ran Portland this weekend and have wavered on running RLH…but I didn’t have the greatest race, so I think that qualifies me to run a half a few weekends later, right?
For the record, if I’m running again soon, I suspect I can get my boyfriend (who calls himself Race Day Boyfriend proudly) to bring out some signs. PDX Marathon signs included: “Imagine Morgan Freeman narrating your marathon,” “Yell if you haven’t pooped your pants,” and “Paul Ryan thinks he’s faster than you.”
My lean cuisine has gone cold while I try to post this from my phone and on my 30 minute lunch break. I want to run for you! About 2 years ago I couldn’t see myself running a mile with some dramatic life changes and a push from my sisters I ran my way through the 2011 Portland Marathon. I have grown a love for running well in my case jogging I blame my short legs. I am dancing in my seat to run this event for free. Pick me! I sacrificed my lunch for this haha. Thank you for your time. PS I already have the Sellwood store address in my GPS let’s do this. Thanks again. Hope you are feeling 100% soon!
But if you win, how will I know who you are?? Log in and reply to this with your name so I can enter you in my contest!
All that hard work on my lunch break just to be anonymous! Haha well here I am replying again and also may I add that my birthday is on Halloween and this would make the sweetest gift! Thanks again, hope I win!

so I’d really like you to pick me to win this. I almost always run like hell. My feet shuffle, since I lift them from the ground as little as possible (have been known to trip on a road reflector). My knees knock and one time – even chafed the insides of my knees (holy cow – how much inner knee cellulite does it take to chafe your might ask). The farther I go and more tired I get (somewhere around mile 2), the more my shoulders hunch in and hands go up. I like to think I look like Rocky getting ready for a knock-out punch – but probably more resemble a trogladyte. (in my imagination, a trogladyte is like a female shrek with fat knees, hunched shoulders, shuffling along but wearing cool running attire).
On the flip side, sometimes there are those three or four steps in a run – regardless of the length where it feels good (generally at that flat section just coming off a slight downhill). It all feels smooth and I can pretend I was meant to run.
(but to be honest – though I wish I could, am in no shape to run a half. 10k yes. half no. but none of the previous posts made me laugh. even a little. so thought I’d give it a go). so you can still pick me to win, but give the entry to someone else. thanks
Sorry to hear about you hurting like hell! I would LOVE to run like hell for ya. My last race was on September 23rd, but with race season dying down, and I am jonesin for another half before the end of the year… Plus I like the bling on my wall, plus it’s fun to post on my blog, I ran ANOTHER Half and PR’ed… AGAIN 😉 HEEHEE!
Seriously tho… FEEL BETTER SOON!
Hey remember that prize I got for guessing your mile time about two years ago? I totally believe you about this contest.
You probably don’t believe me, but I’m working on it.
Witty, oh man! Ok let’s try this: I am always (and I do mean always I don’t think he has taken me out to dinner in a few years- ok exaggerations :P) embarrassing my conservative brother. So Starlight Run is coming up and he asks me if I want to do it, I readily agree and start planning my costume, unbeknownst to my brother who will object! Day of race I show up with a Bavarian Beer made costume, large A&W Glass mug, and a bottle of Jaeger. My brother rolled his eyes and said I just knew…KNEW you were going to show up in costume! You are going to break one of those. I swore to him I was not. Sure enough! A drunk girl asked for some of my water after the race and dropped my mug shattering it everywhere. He was right! Still never regret bringing them though, I was ve–ry popular with that Jaeger!
That didn’t work? /stepping it up!
What is a Ghosts favorite Soda? Mountain Boo! ….not funny? My pacing group didn’t laugh either. Sigh there is a reason I am a runner and not a comedian /cheesy grin

I am planning on wearing green tighty and dress as Robin from Batman. C’mon, I deserve this one!
