Running and then blogging about it

Ultimate Embarrassed Body

This week I have to shamefully report that I did not make it to my 25. I didn’t really do a long run this week, so I fell short by 3. Admitting this brings me great changrin. To help myself get through this sense of failure, I turned to the internet to find some inspirational quotes. Did you know that if you go to inspirationalquotes4u.com you can find quotes to inspire you for almost any activity or area of life? Examples: adversity, food, rain, winning, and cats. And of course running. Here are a few from said category:

“No pain, no gain” – Proverb (a classic!)
“A race is a work of art that people can look at and be affected in as many ways as they’re capable of understanding” – Prefontaine (gotta have some Pre in there)
“Use what you have to run toward your best – that’s how I now live my life.” – Oprah Winfrey (although this one has the word run in it, I’m not sure Oprah was actually talking about running here)
“Fear is a great motivator” – John Treacy (is this inspiring running quote about running at all? Is it even inspiring?)

I’m beginning to doubt the inspirational aspect of this website. Take the cat section, for example. One quote is “If cats could talk, they wouldn’t” – Nan Porter. Not inspirational.

I’ve never really been one to get pumped by inspirational quotes anyway, but I thought I would give it a try. Running with other people has been far more inspiring, which is what I did this entire week. Well, kind of inspiring. Clearly not inspiring enough to get me to 25. However, Friday night would have been barely 2 miles had Chris not showed up and kept me company while I ran a few more miles. Running outside has pretty much killed all ability for me to stay focused on a treadmill, so having a buddy around helped.

On Saturday I ran the first of what will hopefully become a weekly run with old school friends, which should help me stay on track too, but more on that later.

For now I’ll leave you with one last inspirational quote:

“Bee yourself.” – Genie, from Aladdin

Miles run this week: 22
Miles run in 2010: 99

I must confess, I started running at a very early age. Sadly, my runs were unblogumented until around age 23, so you'll have to use your imagination for all the runs I went on before that. Running has always been my go-to sport, but sadly, I spend a good amount of my time with chronic injuries. I have learned to entertain myself athletically with other pursuits such as kettlebell, yoga, and bikini competitions, when I can't run. In addition to my unique talent for working out and then blogging about it, I am an amateur puppy stylist and photographer, television enthusiast, and I'm usually CPR/AED certified, but I would still prefer if you didn't pass out when we're together.

    About Me

I’m Colleen. I started this blog when I was 23 years old and training for my first marathon. I was single, semi-employed, generally directionless in life, and had a lot of free time on my hands. I have a lot less free time now, but I still love to come here and dump my rambling, unedited thoughts after a workout or race once in a while.
