USATF Oregon 1 Mile Road Race

By Colleen @colleenalicia · On May 29, 2012

Memorial Day is usually a day that I spend complaining that none of my friends are having a barbeque.  Then I grouch around and at some point remember to be thankful for everyone I’m memorialing, usually after I see something about it in the newspaper (the comics) or on television.  This year my mom promised to feed me a barbeque, so I had to find a different way to fill my day.  The alternate activity I selected was to head over to Mt. Tabor and watch the USA Track and Field Oregon’s 1 Mile Road Race.

As usual, it was 10-15 degrees colder than you want it to be on Memorial Day, which was probably fine for the runners, but it meant that I could only tolerate the first 5 races, and had to leave before the youth girls race.  Sorry, youth girls.  Not only did I not watch you, but you didn’t make it into my awesome USATF 1 Mile Road Race video like everybody else there today did.  They were probably amazing though, because all the other runners were, finishing with some really impressive times.  I hadn’t really even considered doing the race, but in the elite women’s race the last finisher came in at 6:12, so I probably could have run with them just fine.  You can check out the complete results here, if you’re so inclined.  What you won’t learn on the results page though, is that the top five runners in each race got a Voodoo Doughnut.  For free!

I hope you thoroughly enjoyed this video.  I think it might get more hits than the Portland Proposal video that just went viral!  Finally, here you can see what I looked like while I was filming.  Note that I have no tripod, my hands are just that steady!

I must confess, I started running at a very early age. Sadly, my runs were unblogumented until around age 23, so you'll have to use your imagination for all the runs I went on before that. Running has always been my go-to sport, but sadly, I spend a good amount of my time with chronic injuries. I have learned to entertain myself athletically with other pursuits such as kettlebell, yoga, and bikini competitions, when I can't run. In addition to my unique talent for working out and then blogging about it, I am an amateur puppy stylist and photographer, television enthusiast, and I'm usually CPR/AED certified, but I would still prefer if you didn't pass out when we're together.

Thanks for posting this. I found it 2 years later…:-). I was coming back from an achilles tendon rupture so this race is significant.

    About Me

I’m Colleen. I started this blog when I was 23 years old and training for my first marathon. I was single, semi-employed, generally directionless in life, and had a lot of free time on my hands. I have a lot less free time now, but I still love to come here and dump my rambling, unedited thoughts after a workout or race once in a while.
