Fame Achieved

By Colleen @colleenalicia · On February 26, 2013

One of my blogger/real life friends, Ezra, recently mentioned that he’s been hoping to get famous for a while now.  I think it’s safe to say that anyone with a blog wants to be famous on some level or another, some of us are just too lazy to do anything beyond blogging to get there.  Luckily for me, I can hang up my trying-to-get-famous hat, because I’ve already done it.  My fame has come in the unusual form of making cameos in nursing school tests, but I’ll take what I can get.  Another friend recently texted me a picture of her test (I’ll keep her name private, so she doesn’t get in trouble for sending out pictures of her tests).  Check out this question:

In case you can’t read it, it says:

“Colleen is an avid runner.  She ran track in high school and runs for exercise now that she is in her mid-20’s.  She asks if running is still a good exercise as she ages and how her running performance may change.  She is thinking about competing in some local road races.  You would be most accurate if you told her which of the following?”

  • Her athletic skills decline with age; especially after the age of 18
  • Her speed and strength may peak in her early twenties but endurance usually continues to improve until early thirties
  • She will maintain speed and strength regardless of her age
  • She achieved all of her personal bests in her late teens

I’m also not disclosing the name of my friend, because I think she would be embarrassed that she got this one wrong.  She picked the second one, when clearly it should be the third option – I’m pretty sure that I will maintain, if not improve, my speed and strength regardless of my age.

Anyway, thanks to my friend for passing along this awesome test question!  Be sure to take pictures of all your tests featuring questions with me in them, and send them to me at colleen.alicia@gmail.com to have them featured in my blog!

I must confess, I started running at a very early age. Sadly, my runs were unblogumented until around age 23, so you'll have to use your imagination for all the runs I went on before that. Running has always been my go-to sport, but sadly, I spend a good amount of my time with chronic injuries. I have learned to entertain myself athletically with other pursuits such as kettlebell, yoga, and bikini competitions, when I can't run. In addition to my unique talent for working out and then blogging about it, I am an amateur puppy stylist and photographer, television enthusiast, and I'm usually CPR/AED certified, but I would still prefer if you didn't pass out when we're together.

About Me

I’m Colleen. I started this blog when I was 23 years old and training for my first marathon. I was single, semi-employed, generally directionless in life, and had a lot of free time on my hands. I have a lot less free time now, but I still love to come here and dump my rambling, unedited thoughts after a workout or race once in a while.
