Uberthons Free Timed Mile at Sherwood High School

By Colleen @colleenalicia · On February 19, 2013

Does anyone else remember to check their “other” inbox for Facebook messages about once every six months, and find all kinds of important/relevant messages that you definitely don’t want in a secret hidden inbox?  If your answer is no, I’m sure you’re wrong, you just don’t know that this exists.  Look into it, and enjoy your five messages from sexy Russian girls plus one or two messages from people you actually know or need to communicate with (Facebook channels messages from people you’re not “friends” with into this “other” inbox, and then never tells you).

Today I decided to check my “other” inbox, as I was trying to send a non-friend a Facebook message and they told me that I could send a message to their “other” inbox, or straight to their normal one for just $1!  The two seconds of extra effort checking the “other” inbox turned out to be well-worth it, as it put me in touch with Uberthons, the group that offered to provide free timing to my timed mile last month!

It turns out that Uberthons was so inspired by my timed mile announcement, that they decided to build it up and work toward making it a regular event!  I’m sure I can’t take full credit for this idea – Uberthons seems to be all about promoting fitness, and they’re a little more experienced than I am with creating these events.  However, now that they’ve gotten the ball rolling, I’m hoping I can jump in and help anyway possible to get more people involved.  For instance, right now I am promoting their next timed-mile event, in hopes of spreading my love of the timed-mile!

I must confess, I started running at a very early age. Sadly, my runs were unblogumented until around age 23, so you'll have to use your imagination for all the runs I went on before that. Running has always been my go-to sport, but sadly, I spend a good amount of my time with chronic injuries. I have learned to entertain myself athletically with other pursuits such as kettlebell, yoga, and bikini competitions, when I can't run. In addition to my unique talent for working out and then blogging about it, I am an amateur puppy stylist and photographer, television enthusiast, and I'm usually CPR/AED certified, but I would still prefer if you didn't pass out when we're together.

About Me

I’m Colleen. I started this blog when I was 23 years old and training for my first marathon. I was single, semi-employed, generally directionless in life, and had a lot of free time on my hands. I have a lot less free time now, but I still love to come here and dump my rambling, unedited thoughts after a workout or race once in a while.
